pile of garlic bulbs

The best garlic press of 2021

So, you need to mash up some garlic? There are a number of ways to press garlic without a press but a garlic press can’t be beat in terms of simplicity. Especially if you need a large amount of crushed garlic for a recipie you’re going to want to use a garlic press.

There are a few things to look out for in a good garlic press such as:

-Is it comfortable to grip? An ergonomically designed press with make the job much easier on your hands.

-Is it sturdy? Some really budget garlic presses are made of metal that is so cheap I’ve literally had it bend and deform when working with a particularly big clove.

-Is it easy to get the garlic out of the press? Most presses leave a quantitly of the cloves skin behind and it is really difficult to scrape that out. It gets even more difficult if you don’t do it right away because there is something about dried, crushed garlic that makes it stick to metal like you would not believe!

Now with that being said here is my top pick for the best garlic press of 2021:

OXO Good Grips Soft-Handled Garlic Press

OXO Garlic press in action

This is my top pick for a garlic press and the one that I actually own and use in my own kitchen. It has a lovely soft ergonomic handle and is made of strong metal that will not deform. My favorite part about it is the flip out handle which goes back into the holes and loosens up the left over garlic skin so you can easily remove it.

Now, I do recommend that you clean this immediatly after use. Because dried garlic will stick to this pretty well if you do not but that is true of all presses out there. This one cleans very easily though and is dishwasher safe too.
